Advocacy

Educate, Activate, Motivate, Communicate!  Advocate!

Welcome to the Arizona Reading Association’s advocacy page. [View Powerpoint]

Advocacy is the act of turning passive support into positive action by speaking out on issues of concern.

Literacy advocacy is important to our state and our nation because its goal is to ensure that all children, regardless of their strengths, needs, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, receive the best education we can provide.

Advocacy is also vital to making sure that educators are recognized as valuable human resources in all of our communities.

As educators, we have important knowledge about the work we do. As citizens and members of the International Reading Association and the Arizona reading Association, we have the responsibility to communicate this information to our elected officials, community leaders, the media, our colleagues, and our neighbors. Children and families must become and remain the top priority of our local, state, and national policy makers.
